Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has sent a strong message on the Andhra Pradesh government’s approach towards social media abuse, making it clear that the NDA government will no longer tolerate organized online harassment, character assassination, or the misuse of freedom of speech.

His remarks came amid heightened political attention after Andhra Pradesh Police made two arrests within the last 24 hours over alleged abusive and derogatory social media posts targeting Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. While the arrests have triggered political debate, Pawan Kalyan’s latest press conference focused on drawing a clear distinction between free speech and online abuse.

Without referring to any specific case, the Jana Sena Party chief asserted that freedom of expression cannot be used as a shield for vulgar language, personal attacks, or coordinated defamation campaigns against public representatives and their families.

Speaking emotionally, Pawan Kalyan revealed that his own family members had been deeply affected by the nature of online abuse directed at them. He argued that if elected leaders and their families can be subjected to such attacks, the safety and dignity of ordinary citizens on social media are equally at risk and deserve greater protection.

He also dismissed attempts to politicize legal action against offenders, stating that “criminals have no caste, no religion, and no political party.” According to him, anyone found violating the law through cyber harassment or character assassination will face legal consequences, irrespective of political affiliation or social identity.

One of the key announcements from the press meet was the establishment of a dedicated grievance cell within the Deputy Chief Minister’s office. The new mechanism will allow victims of social media abuse and cyber harassment to submit complaints along with supporting evidence, enabling authorities to take appropriate action.

Pawan Kalyan further indicated that the government is willing to consider stronger and more specialized legal provisions in the future to deal with evolving social media threats and organized online abuse.

The Deputy Chief Minister’s remarks underline the Andhra Pradesh government’s intention to adopt a tougher stance against cyber harassment while emphasizing that freedom of speech should be exercised responsibly and within the framework of the law.
