Actor Dhanush has finally addressed the controversy surrounding this year’s National Film Awards, responding to criticism over Raayan receiving top honors. Following the announcement of the winners, several film enthusiasts and critics argued that Vijay Sethupathi’s Maharaja and Karthi’s Meiyazhagan were more deserving of the recognition.
Speaking about the debate, Dhanush said he respects the opinions of those who believe Raayan did not deserve the award. However, he questioned why similar outrage was absent when several of his critically acclaimed films failed to win National Awards in previous years.
“Many people feel Raayan didn’t deserve the award. I respect that opinion. But when Pudhupettai, Maryan, Raanjhanaa, Vada Chennai, and even Karnan missed National Awards despite deserving them, very few questioned it. Why is everyone raising the issue only now?” Dhanush said.
The actor also surprised many by acknowledging the quality of the films that were at the center of the debate. “I know Meiyazhagan and Maharaja are better films than mine,” he added, earning praise for his candid and humble response.
